Why recycle skateboards?

I skate, and I'm an artist. Skateboard jewelry and accessories seemed like a good move on my part. I had no idea how many decks get thrown away. One skatepark, is saving an average of 10 decks per week for us. That's just one week, one park! Imagine how many decks worldwide are going into landfills. Granted, we would never be able to make that much jewelry. But we feel we are certainly doing a small part to help keep some of these decks from a undignified ending, and turning them into cool works of art.  This pic represents one week worth of collected decks, Stay tuned for the jewelry we will make from them...

Thanks to the skaters!

Just wanted to give a shout out to all those skaters and skateshops that have been saving their broken boards for us!
When I first started making jewelry from broken skateboards, I'd get a few skateboards here and there from some of the local skateshops. But after months of stopping in, saying hi and handing out some free jewelry, some of them started collecting boards for us!
AntiGravity Skate Park in Newport News
SK8 Supply in Chesapeake
Hotline Surf Shop in Virginia Beach

Other shops have helped us out too, like WRV, Mike's Skateshop, 17th Street Surfshop and more.
Thanks for helping us go green with this unique skateboard jewelry!

DMA Skateboard Clocks

Our goal at Dos Manos Art is to not let any donated skateboard go to waste. We found that many of the skateboards that we received, just didn't have the color to turn into jewelry.  So, I started creating clocks out of broken skateboards, literally skateboards that are broken in half.  Also made some coat racks. What else could a skater kid want in his or her room. Then we found that many of the skateboards were not yet broken in half, but also could not be used for jewelry. When I started doing artwork in 1982, I started off with spraypaint, doing grafitti art on skateboard ramps. My spraypainting art has certainly evolved since then and combining old, unusable skateboards with spraypaint art, I feel as if I have created something very useful, unique and cool, for all ages. Check it out! Skateboard Clock
